NVCA Board Selects Mark Heesen as Next President
September 24, 1999 - Arlington, VA - The Board of Directors of the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) announced today the selection of Mark G. Heesen as the Association's new President. Mr. Heesen will oversee all Association activities, lead professional staff and work closely with the Board of Directors in developing Association policies and strategies. Mr. Heesen succeeds Daniel T. Kingsley, who served as the NVCA Executive Director since 1978.

"After completing a nationwide search for several months and considering several well qualified candidates, it was unanimous among the full Board of Directors that the right person to lead the NVCA into the next century was Mark Heesen," stated M. Kathleen Behrens, Ph.D., NVCA Past Chairman. "Mark's exemplary service and dedication to the venture industry has served our membership," affirmed John Martinson, NVCA Chairman.

For the past eight years, Mr. Heesen has served as Director of Legislative, Regulatory, and Entrepreneurial Affairs. Mark worked successfully to reform capital gains taxation, securities litigation, accounting treatment of stock options, and the FDA pre-market approval process. Under his leadership, NVCA has participated in coalitions of technology and financial organizations supporting America's New Economy.

Prior to coming to the NVCA in 1991, Mark was an aide to a former Governor of Pennsylvania and was Deputy Director for Federal Funds reporting to the Texas Legislature. Mark received a law degree with an emphasis in taxation from the Dickinson School of Law in 1984.

The National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) represents approximately 330 venture capital and private equity firms. The NVCA was established in 1973 to foster a better understanding of the important impact venture capital has on the U.S. economy and to stimulate the flow of private risk equity capital to developing companies. Today, the NVCA is the venture community's leading source of advocacy, networking, professional development and information.
