Venture Economics and NVCA Launch
VentureXpert Database Web Access

NVCA members now have a new way of accessing statistics and data on the venture capital and private equity industries. Built from NVCA/Venture Economics quarterly activity surveys and years of data collected by Venture Economics on commitments, performance, and exits, this robust database now can be accessed using worldwide web browsers.

For NVCA members who participate in the quarterly survey, enrollment and certain basic reports are free. For example, if you want to compare the number and size of biotechnology investments in the first quarter of 1999 to the first quarter of 1996, the reports you need are simple to run and free. If you want more current basic industry performance numbers (as printed in Figure 6.01 on page 67 of the 1999 NVCA Yearbook), that report is free. Also in the free reports area, you can compare, for example, the number of venture capital funds raising money, and the dollars raised, by year for each of the past 15 years.

Participating NVCA members also receive an annual allotment of reports which can include company profiles, private equity firm profiles, analytics reports, and executive profiles. Most of the tables and charts in the 1999 NVCA Yearbook were prepared using VentureXpert.

This new interface has been beta-tested by selected NVCA members since the beginning of May. Feedback from these early users has been very positive. Comments include that that the product is easy to use, has useful portfolio company information, and uniquely provides information on the whole private equity investment cycle --from fundraising to performance.

The NVCA is committed to providing the best possible data and research to its members, and to ensuring that it has the best and broadest information on venture capital and private equity activity in all industry sectors, and in all congressional districts.

NVCA has endorsed VentureXpert as the Association's official venture investment activity database. Members who participate in the Venture Economics/NVCA industry investment survey have access to free member reports and are eligible for a 20% discount off retail rates.

For more information about how to start using VentureXpert, see www.ventureeconomics.com or contact Marc Katz of Venture Economics at 212-484-4798 (marc.katz@tfn.com) who will sign up NVCA members.
